The Sicamous Eagles are strengthening the team with a new addition to the nest.
In a July 4 media release, the Eagles announced Shuswap local Colton McCarthy as their new strength and skills coach.
McCarthy, who was born in Moose Jaw, Sask. but raised in Salmon Arm, brings passion and a wealth of hockey history to the organization. A former forward, McCarthy began his junior hockey career in the KIJHL in 2012 with the Nelson Leafs, starting a four-year journey that led him to play in the WHL and BCHL with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Prince Albert Raiders, and Vernon Vipers.
McCarthy brings with him a dedication to player development "and will be instrumental in guiding out athletes both on and off the ice," the release reads.
His training approach focuses on building strength, improving conditioning, refining skills, and emphasizing injury prevention.
Off the ice, McCarthy will lead players through strength and mobility routines, recovery strategies, and offer nutrition guidance and overall athletic performance.
"With his dedication to fitness, hockey IQ, and community spirit, Colton is a fantastic addition to the Sicamous Eagles," the team said in the release. "We're proud to have him on board and look forward to the impact he'll make on the team and the Sicamous hockey community."
Fully committing to Sicamous, McCarthy is settling in and taking over the family business, Sicamous Concrete and Gravel. Despite the new career, he remains true to his love of the game, and is "eager to give back to the hockey community that shaped him by working with the next generation of players."
