Celebrate the arts with series of Summerland events

Myriad of special events scheduled for summer

The Summer Arts Program will resume this summer. The program, organized by the Summerland Community Arts Council, has activites for children between the ages of four and 14.

The Summerland Community Arts Council has a series of special summer events lined up starting June 20.

On the Friday,Summerland’s rich art history will be featured with an art walk through the downtown. The community has murals and sculptures which narrate the cultural diversity and artistic spirit.

The three-kilometre curated tour is led by artist and illustrator Larry Hunter, Meet at the Ryga Arts Centre, 9525 Wharton St. on Friday, June 20 at 10 a.m.

On Saturday, June 21, the Plein Air Showcase will be held in the green space between the Ryga Arts Centre and the Summerland Museum.

This event is part of the Summerland Community Garden Tour, presented by the Summerland Ornamental Gardens. The showcase runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Our Connections in Life, an exhibit at the gallery, features artwork by the Federation of Canadian Artists. The exhibition runs from June 19 to Aug. 1. The opening reception will be held Saturday, June 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. Artists will be in attendance.

Throughout the summer, Music in the Park concerts will be held in the green space, with nine concerts scheduled every Wednesday in July and August, starting at 6:30 p.m. 

The Summer Arts Program, for children between the ages of four and 14, will be held this summer. Courses include Fun with a Pocketknife, Assemblage Art and Sculpture, Texture Art, Beading Strings and Things, Multi-media camps and more.
