Five new small wildfires in Bella Coola region discovered July 7-9

A campfire ban is in effect until Oct. 31 in the Coastal Fire Centre, except for Haida Gwaii

Since July 7, five new small wildfires have been discovered in the Bella Coola area.

All five measure under .09 hectares and are located near the Dean River, Mesachie Nose and Melikan Mountain, discovered Saturday, Kimsquit Bay, discovered Friday and .8 km south of Oppy Lake, discovered Sunday.

At this point BC Wildfire Service has not indicated the cause of the new fires.

A heat warning issued for the area has ended, and the Environment Canada website notes the highs reached in the last few days at the Bella Coola Airport were 30.3 C on July 5, 28.7 C on July 6, 29.8 C on July 7 and 23.5 C on July 8.

Highs for the next few days are 26 C with a chance of showers on Sunday, July 9, the same on Monday, July 10, with a 30 per cent chance of showers and then bright sunshine and highs of 26 C on Tuesday, July 11, 27 C on Wednesday July 12, and 26 C on Thursday, July 13.

Within the Coastal Fire Centre there are presently 33 fires.

All categories of fires are banned within the Coastal Fire Centre, except for Haida Gwaii, until further notice, including campfires.
