Parking lot pickers will find trunk-loads of treasures at trunk sales happening this summer in Nanaimo.
The city is hosting two events where bargain hunters can search for deals from up to 150 vendors looking to give items the boot, so to speak, starting with an event to kick-off summer in the Country Club Centre parking lot Saturday, June 22, that runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The second trunk sale happens Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Vancouver Island University parking lots L and M.
The sales promote the reuse and recycling of unwanted garage sale type items. No retail-type booths or sale of new items will be permitted and the only new items allowed for sale are items made from recycled materials.
“Everyone loves a bargain and to see old items find a new life,” said Nanaimo Mayor Leonard Krog in a press release. “The trunk sales give Nanaimo residents two great opportunities to find new-to-them purchases and de-clutter at the same time, all while keeping waste out of the landfill.”
The city will also host the annual Reuse Rendezvous event July 20-21. This is an opportunity for residents to place quality, reusable items at the curb with a 'free' sign.
