There will be lots to see and do in Polson Park for Canada Day celebrations Tuesday, but no parking.
Due to the ongoing Polson Naturalization construction project, there will be no public parking available in the park during the festivities.
"We’re asking attendees to plan ahead and consider alternative ways to get to the event," said Maylia Janzen, president of the Vernon Okanagan Inspired Community Events group which is hosting the celebrations.
Options include:
• Get a ride from a friend or family member;
• Take transit — several local bus routes stop near the park;
• Park downtown and walk — it's typically just a short and pleasant stroll;
• Ride your bike — bike valet will be available courtesy of the City of Vernon Climate Action Mobilizers.
"We’re working to accommodate disability drop-offs only inside the park, but parking spaces will not likely be available," said Janzen.
Those in the area are urged to prioritize safety, use designated crosswalks and obey all traffic signals, especially when crossing Highway 6. And keep a close eye on little ones near roadways. The community can expect heavier-than-usual traffic in the area.
"Let’s work together to keep our community safe and make this Canada Day celebration a joyful one for all."
The full day of family-friendly fun on July 1 starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 9:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets.
There is live music all day from talented local artists, artisan vendors, Kiki the Eco Elf bringing eco-friendly magic from 11 to 3, two bouncy features: an Ogopogo Bounce House and a slide, a Canadian trivia walk, food truck garden, yard games for all ages and much more.
"Whether you're enjoying the music, discovering local art, or spending quality time with friends and family, there’s something for everyone to enjoy," Janzen said.
Community vendors looking to join the celebration can still book a free booth in exchange for participation and hosting community activities.
