BOUQUET To a shopper in line at Quality Foods on Turner Road who kindly paid for a birthday cake for a volunteer at the thrift store next door, which was about to be purchased by two volunteers from said store. Thank you.
BEEF To the lady who was tailgating me on the highway. I purposely stepped on the brakes because you were so close. Back off.
BOUQUET To the great young couple who saved my tired 92-year-old legs a long mile’s walk. They picked up a stranger after the political rally and went out of their way to drive me to my car. They were overly generous.
BEEF To the person who complained about a company being highlighted for their superior service. That’s the whole point of bouquets. I bet you think they shouldn’t keep score in kids’ sports too.
BOUQUET To the city for approving much-needed improvements to Loudon Park. A long-overdue revitalization.
BEEF To health-care professionals working from home (massage therapists, etc.) who chat incessantly about their personal issues, ex-clients, family problems, etc. during a paid client session. A greeting and a few minutes of chat is great, but not throughout the session. Keep it professional.
BOUQUET A posthumous bouquet to First Nations Canadian poet Pauline Johnson. There is a line in one of her poems that you have to love: “The Yankee to the south of us must south of us remain.”
BEEF Don’t people realize that those drones flying around at night are the spies? Hello! Someone has to look after us.
BOUQUET Kudos to Brownlow and Sons Contracting. You are the best. Love my windows. Great work and great attitude. Keep smiling.
BEEF To the two guys who hogged one of the benches at the gym, spending more time staring at their phones than working out. You were still there after I had used two other pieces of equipment. Quit being so selfish.
BOUQUET To dear Marcia. If I could, I would order hundreds of bouquets of roses. You gave the gift of food at Easter through Carolyn. I am incredibly grateful.
BEEF A corrosive transformer overcharged our hydro bill by 80 per cent, blaming baseboards. We use a wood stove. It also blew up our four-year-old fridge, clock radio, CD player and lightbulbs. Step up to the plate instead of trying to make us claim on home insurance.
BOUQUET To Sheila at Caledonian Clinic reception. Over the years she is consistently friendly, patient, and very kind. The way she takes her time to care for our senior community especially warms my heart. Her kindness and consideration make such a positive difference and is very much appreciated.
BEEF To water restrictions on May 1, it’s ridiculous that we allow new building without more water reserves, studies say we have enough storage but that’s nonsense and everyone knows that.
BOUQUET I get that it can be very hard to self-motivate. I still struggle at times to want to get out of the house. It’s cliché to say but it really does help to try to stick to a routine and mentally force yourself. It’s actually crazy how much your mood can change once you start getting in some exercise and being outside.
BEEF I’ve been stress eating a lot. It’s funny, you get your job down and then notice everyone else is messing up your work.
BOUQUET To my wonderful and beautiful mother Tabatha. I love you so much.
BEEF To the bearers of vulgar bumper stickers and upside-down flags. Like it or not, the results of the federal election can only be interpreted as a complete vindication of our former prime minister.
BOUQUET To Mom for dropping off some homemade chicken soup.
BEEF To speeders on Departure Bay Road, slow down. There are children and families in this area, and people constantly go 70 kilometres per hour or more in a 50km/h zone. To any RCMP reading this, some speed enforcement along Departure Bay would be greatly appreciated.
BOUQUET To seniors who voluntarily give up their drivers’ licences. A tough decision. Today a senior lady careened through a crosswalk turning left, with me in it. She didn’t even see me. She then sped down the street and turned left into a seniors’ residence, dangerously close to an approaching bus. Please consider the safety of others and give up your licence like I did.
BEEF The daily grind of work is tedious. Our company just had a massive layoff so now they are micromanaging every little thing. Now I have more work and not getting off at my usual time, thus making me skip my normal routine.
BOUQUET To the staff at NRGH for the wonderful care I received when I came in with appendicitis and needed surgery recently. In a time when our health-care system is struggling you show how much you care about the jobs you do.
BEEF To the extremely loud motorcyclist in the Sherwood Forest area who loves to gun the throttle at all hours of the day and night. Is your masculinity that fragile that you have to behave like a show-off?
BOUQUET To the kind person who takes in my garbage and recycling bins on Foster Street. It’s always a nice surprise when I get home from work and see that someone has taken my bins in for me.
BEEF To the beef about church-polling places. In my community there is no hall and the church used is the most convenient location. If the local voting day polling site is not suitable for a person, there are good options. Personally, I voted elsewhere at my advanced voting station or could have voted at the main electoral office.
BOUQUET To Knappett construction. For the past few months, while upgrading our water and sewer pipes in the St. George area, the staff have been pleasant and accommodating as our roads are dug up. Every night they cleaned up and made the road usable, a little bumpy but usable and now they are nearly done our block, paving is proceeding with similar care for us all. Thank you for a job well done.
BEEF To the driver who had the audacity to run into our van in the Brooks Landing parking lot and cause extensive damage to it and not having the decency to leave a note on our windshield or wait and speak to us about the incident. You know what they say about karma.
BOUQUET To Renae B. of Nanaimo Hearing Clinic. After two months of trying to get someone to investigate my friend’s hearing aids to no avail, Renae and other staff members went above and beyond to solve the problem. Five out of five stars for their service.
BEEF To the dude with the ponytail hanging out of the passenger side of a car yelling and giving the finger because I thumbs-upped the driver for dangerous driving. Bro, if you think you are intimidating, you obviously didn’t see all the drivers laughing at you.
BOUQUET Thank you to Grace at Central Drugs on Bowen Road for your outstanding service dealing with my red eye infection. You saved me from hours at emergency and I appreciated your follow-up phone call.
BEEF To city council for their lavish spending sprees such as the proposed Loudon Park boathouse. This current city council is going to break the average homeowner with the increase in property taxes for unjustified spendings. This boathouse is for recreation only and has nothing to do with infrastructure. We voted this city council in and we can definitely vote them out.
BOUQUET To the amazing Nanaimo Search and Rescue team. These people go above and beyond to help people every day and I for one will always be forever thankful and always appreciative of the team of members who helped me after a dirt bike accident. Just know that I’m thankful for you forever.
BEEF To myself. I didn’t believe the previous talk of the lights in the sky, I should have. I saw them on a night walk the other day. They were very large and bright, I don’t remember much else, my memory of that night is a little fuzzy.
BOUQUET Thank you to everyone who stopped at my kid’s lemonade stand, even though she held it when it was raining. It made her week. Thank you.
BEEF To certain Canadians who voted for the current government. When they take your homes because you can’t pay the increased taxes and starve you out, don’t complain. You deserve everything that is coming.
BOUQUET To Tracy at Home Depot. Thank you for all your help with the hose roller. You provided ‘A’ customer service. Your help will never be forgotten.
