A doll making workshop attracted locals Friday, Oct. 20 at the Art House gallery in the Bella Coola Valley.

“I just thought it might be fun to do a doll workshop as something a bit different from painting but still creative as you can see,” said Ida Eriksen, a director of the Bella Coola Valley Arts Council and gallery curator.

Eriksen made all the bodies, provides the stuffing, buttons, paint and wool, then showed participants how to put the dolls together.

“It’s amazing how everyone has their own take on the project,” she said. “I do tell them that I present guidelines and the rest is up to them. I’m trying out different activities for people to get them out and do something just for themselves.”

Eriksen said some people put medicine into the dolls, some use them for stress, some just as fun decorations.
