A brand-new splash pad at Centennial Park in Central Saanich is set to open its watery gates on Sunday, May 25, offering a fun and accessible recreational experience for children of all ages and abilities.
The grand opening will be celebrated with a free, family-friendly bike ride to the splash pad, departing from the main parking lot of Centennial Park at 9:30 a.m., culminating in the splash pad’s official opening at 11 a.m., complete with an ice cream station and an inflatable obstacle course for even more excitement.
Construction on the exciting new addition began in December 2024 and features a variety of interactive water play elements.
Children will be able to stand under or run through decorative structures as water is pumped through them, creating a dynamic and engaging play environment.
"The splash pad features a thrilling dumping bucket and spray water features with push-button activation for easy use," the district said.
The design incorporates a no-standing-water system, maximizing fun and minimizing safety concerns. Most notably, the new splash pad is completely wheelchair accessible, ensuring that everyone can participate in the refreshing fun.
The new splash pad is part of the district's ongoing efforts to enhance recreational facilities and provide high-quality amenities for residents and visitors.
"We are thrilled with the addition of this new splash pad in Centennial Park, designed with accessibility and our youngest residents in mind," said Mayor Ryan Windsor. "We look forward to seeing families create wonderful memories here."
The $250,000 splash pad was partially funded by a generous $50,000 donation from the Lions Club, which will be officially presented to the district during the event.
