Rutland residents have a chance to help shape two local parks.

From now until Sunday, July 13, the public is invited to share feedback on the design of Aurora Park, a brand-new green space, and Rutland Lions Park, a long-standing community gathering place that’s in line for improvements.

“Parks have a profound impact on the health and well-being of our residents,” said Keith Pinkoski, the city’s senior project landscape architect. “Not only do they provide spaces for recreation and connection, but they also contribute to a community’s sense of identity.”

Pinkoski said public input plays a key role in the planning process.

“Capturing the community’s needs is an important part to the design of these Rutland parks and we encourage residents to get involved and help shape these parks.”

Aurora Park will be built from the ground up on a vacant piece of land between Aurora Crescent and Froelich Road. Some of the proposed features include walking paths, a hillside playground, a community garden and a dog run.

Rutland Lions Park, located at 175 Gray Road, is already a well-used neighbourhood hub. Planned upgrades include better pathways, a refreshed playground, a disc golf area and a dog run. These improvements will tie in with the construction of the new activity centre next door, part of the city’s Building Stronger Kelowna plan.

Residents can visit the city’s website to fill out a quick survey.

The public can also chat with the project team in person at the Rutland Residents Celebration on Sunday (June 22) at Rutland Centennial Park from 12 to 4 p.m.
