PHOTOS: Falkland Stampede bucks through the rain

The 105th Falkland Stampede is running all through the Victoria Day Weekend

Regardless of the weather, the Falkland Stampede brings out a crowd.

The 105th edition of the classic rodeo kicked off on Saturday, May 17, for three days of bucking action.

Tie-down roping, bareback, saddle bronc, bull riding and steer wrestling are just some of the events that the rodeo features.

The Falkland Rodeo is part of the Canadian Pro Rodeo Association. Competitors collect points leading up to the Canadian Finals Rodeo, hosted in Edmonton in October.

Falkland Stampede started back in 1919, when residents of the small town organized a picnic to celebrate the end of World War I. It has persisted ever since, having typically been hosted every May long weekend.

A parade on Sunday brought hundreds down Highway 97, before the rodeo kept visitors enthralled in the afternoon, despite dreary weather.

Rodeo action continues on Sunday, kicking off at 1 p.m. Visit thefalklandstampede.ca for more information.
