Power out in Enderby after dump truck hits utility pole

The outage affects 639 BC Hydro customers

Power is out in Enderby after a dump truck hit a utility pole in a construction zone Saturday afternoon.

Enderby resident Jodi-Rae Hutter told The Morning Star the dump truck hit the pole on Granville Street around 1 p.m. June 28. The pole didn't fall immediately but a short while later it collapsed under the weight of the transformers.

Hutter said her house "shook violently" and she heard an explosion when the transformer came down.

"Won't be a quick fix. Everyone on the high side of the street is blocked in," she said. "No injuries thankfully."

Power is out for 639 customers from the city centre and south along Back Enderby Road. Power has been off since 1:03 p.m.

BC Hydro crews are on site and fire trucks have responded to the scene.

The work on Granville Street is part of the city's sewer and water line replacement project taking place until October.

Meanwhile, there is another power outage just to the north along Highway 97A, north of Poirier Road in Mara. A total of 227 customers are without power. Crews are on their way to the scene. Power has been off since just after 1 p.m.
