An out-of-compliance permit requirement is forcing the Town of Princeton to clean up one of its infrastructure projects.

At the regular meeting on June 18, council received and approved the report and quote for the upgrade of the Klargester Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) electrical kiosk, which no longer meets the necessary standards. The project was awarded to CENTRIX Control Solutions for the sum of $122,068.80, and council approved a total of $134.275.68, including contingencies of 10 per cent, which will be paid through the Sewer Operating Reserve Budget in the 2025-2029 Financial Plan.

The Klargester RBC is a large septic-style sewage treatment facility located in the Westridge subdivision that operates under Permit No. 11758, issued by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. The upgrading of the kiosk, which will install a flow measuring device, will allow the Town to monitor, record and report data from the facility in the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, which is now a key requirement of the permit.

"The proposed upgrade will integrate the facility with the SCADA system, enabling accurate data recording and ensuring compliance with permit conditions," Princeton manager of civic works Jared Thomas said.  "Additionally, the new kiosk will be designed to accommodate future use of the Klargester RBC as a lift station."

The CENTRIX Control Solutions quote includes:

  • $35,330 for radio installation and programming
  • $34,250 for the kiosk
  • $22,200 for the control panel
  • $13,700 for the radio
  • $3,510 for site materials

The pre-tax total for the project is $108,990.
