First Tee will be providing free golf instruction to children at Cultus Lake Golf Course throughout the month of May. (First Tee)

Kids in Chilliwack have the opportunity to try out golf for free this spring, through a youth development program called First Tee.

The program, offered through Golf Canada, introduces youth to golf through inclusive and accessible golf environments at golf courses, schools, and community centres while providing empowering development opportunities through sport.

They've partnered with Cultus Lake Golf Club for a series of free programs, through a donation from the Nick Taylor Charity Classic. They have also bolstered the Chilliwack school district's physical education offerings, by providing four golf equipment kits to rotate through schools.

The programs at Cultus Lake Golf Club are divided into age groups of 7 to 9, and 10 to 13, playing once a week for one hour each session. No previous golf skills are required as these are designed as learn-to-play sessions.

Golf equipment is also not required and will be provided for the players.

There are after-school and evening sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays, and afternoon sessions on Saturdays.

There is a 12-person capacity per group, and registration is required.

To register, email firstteebc@golfcanada.ca.
