LETTER: It's council that's not representative of Saanich

Saanich Municipal Hall in Saanich.

So the mayor and council think the recent satisfaction survey is unrepresentative of the Saanich populace? If it weren’t so pathetic, that sentiment would be laughable.

In the 2022 municipal elections, 27,975 (slightly more than 30 per cent) of eligible voters cast ballots. More than twice that number (62,854) abstained for one reason or another. Murdock received 13,631 votes (roughly 15 per cent of eligible voters). Plant: 16,324 (roughly 18 per cent of eligible voters). Phelps Bondaroff 9,218 votes (barely 10 per cent of eligible voters). The rest of council were elected with percentages between 10 and 18 per cent. How, for the love of democracy, can council claim they are representative of the majority of Saanich taxpayers? Seems Trumpism is alive and well in Saanich and doing what it wants. Thankfully, we only have to tolerate it for another 17 months.
