Castleview Care Centre hosted an Alzheimer's awareness walk on June 21.
About 80 participants including residents, family, friends and staff participated in the event which included a short walk, speeches from elected officials, musical entertainment and a BBQ.
The theme was "Remember for those who can't" and several people talked about how their lives have been touched by the disease.
"Our vision, ultimately, is of a society without dementia," said Danielle Bywater, representative from the Alzheimer Society of BC. "Until that day, we will settle for a dementia-friendly community, and that is what you are all doing here. A place ... where we can support one another to live as well as possible, as long as possible."
The majority of participants wore purple shirts and a $300 cheque from the proceeds of the shirt sales was presented to the Alzheimer Society.
