It has been a busy few days for criminals and the Castlegar RCMP.
Theft from vehicles and debit card fraud
On June 21, Castlegar RCMP received three separate reports of property being stolen from vehicles. The thefts occurred throughout the previous evening.
One took place in the 300 block of Lakeview Street where a wallet, Acer laptop and Canadian currency were stolen.
Two separate thefts occurred in the 1000 block of 8th Street. A backpack with fishing tackle was taken from one vehicle and a debit card was taken from another vehicle.
The backpack was later turned into police and returned to the owner.
The stolen debit card was fraudulently used at numerous Castlegar businesses.
RCMP visited one of the businesses and upon viewing surveillance footage were able to identify the suspect, who was well known to police.
The 51-year-old Castlegar male was located by police and arrested. He is scheduled to appear in Castlegar court on Aug. 27.
Theft from business
On June 23, a Castlegar business was the victim of a break and enter.
A thief entered a broken window of a business in the 2200 block of 14th Avenue around 5 a.m.
According to RCMP, video surveillance showed an individual wearing dark clothing, while attempting to cover their face, enter the building and walk throughout the business.
Stolen items include Canadian currency, cheques to the business, and a grey Acer laptop.
Alternative Choice Glass posted about the break and enter on their Facebook page, asking people to not cash cheques made out to the business and for motorists to share any dashcam footage they may have from around the time of the crime.
Suspicious person
On June 24, at approximately 12:44 a.m., a home owner in the 1400 block of Arrow Lakes Drive woke up after hearing a noise outside their residence.
The homeowner looked outside, but did not see anyone. However, upon viewing their security camera footage, a male was seen standing on the fence, moving the camera two separate times, nine minutes apart.
Police made patrols and were unable to locate the suspect. Later, the homeowner checked their security cameras again and observed the male had returned and was watching her property.
The homeowner provided the name of a potential suspect and RCMP are continuing to investigate.
Theft of e-bike
Also on June 24, a blue e-bike was stolen from outside a home in the 2100 block of 10th Avenue.
According to police, the owner observed a "suspicious looking male" and followed him to a property located in the 2100 block of Crestview Crescent where the owner observed his stolen bike partly concealed under a tarp.
The owner retrieved his bike while the uncooperative male suspect departed in a dark pick up truck.
Anyone with information related to any of these incidents is asked to contact the Castlegar RCMP at (250) 365-7721
